Colombo. On Thursday, in the 5th match of the Super-4 round of Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 2 wickets. With the victory, the Sri Lankan cricket team has entered the finals of the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka will face the Indian cricket team in the title match. The final match of the tournament will be played in Colombo on Sunday 17 September.

After winning the toss and batting first, Pakistan team scored 252 runs losing 7 wickets in 42 overs (cut due to rain). Mohammad Rizwan (86*) scored the most runs for the team. The Sri Lankan team, which came into the field to chase the target, won the match by losing 8 wickets in 42 overs. Kusal Mendis scored the highest 91 runs for Sri Lanka. Iftikhar Ahmed took maximum 3 wickets for Pakistan.

While chasing the target, Sri Lanka did not have a very good start and Kusal Perera (17) was out on the team score of 20. After this, Mendis and Pathum Nissanka (29) made the team strong by adding 57 runs in 60 balls for the second wicket. After this, Mendis and Sadira Samarawickrama (48) completed the formalities of victory by making a century partnership (100) for the third wicket.

Top order batsman Shafiq batted brilliantly and managed to score the first half-century of his ODI career. Batting at a strike rate of 75.36, he scored 52 runs in 69 balls. During this, 3 fours and 2 sixes also came from his bat.

Rizwan batted brilliantly in this match and played a big role in taking the team to a respectable score. In the match, he scored unbeaten 86 runs in 73 balls while batting at a strike rate of 117.81. In his innings he hit 6 fours and 2 sixes.
