Asian Games: Hopes for medals in golf increased, Aditi Ashok leads after the third round
-Indian women’s team on top in the competition
New Delhi. India’s top golfer Aditi Ashok has increased her medal hopes with her brilliant play in the Asian Games. After the second round ended on the West Lake International Course, Aditi is in second place after playing a card of six under 66.
In the men’s category, Anirban Lahiri (65-67), affected by extreme heat, continues to hold his ninth position, while Shubhankar Sharma (68-65) is joint 21st. SSP Chawrasia (67-72) is tied at 29th position along with Khalin Joshi (70-69).
India’s men’s team is ranked sixth in the standings. Korea occupies the first position while Hong Kong and Japan are at second and third position respectively.
Aditi shared the second position with China’s Yin Ruoning with a total score of 11-under 133. Thailand’s Yubol Arpichya is ahead of Aditi and the Chinese player by one stroke.
Aditi started with consecutive birdies on the first and second holes and then made a brilliant eagle on the par-4 fifth hole. The four-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner made birdies on the 11th and 15th before making bogey on hole 16. 25-year-old Aditi, who finished fourth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, then improved with a birdie. The next hole will end with his final match.
The Chinese pair of Lin Ziyu and Liu Yu finished fourth and fifth in singles with rounds of 67 and 68 respectively.
Another Indian, Pranavi Sharath Urs, jumped seven places to joint 10th position after carding four-under 68 along with four others for a total score of five-under 139.
Teenage sensation Avani Prashant shot 69 to jump six places to be tied 15th with a total score of three under 141.
In the women’s team competition, India stood third with an overall score of 16-under 272. The Chinese team leads at 21-under 267, improving on yesterday’s joint lead. Thailand kept the pressure on China with an overall score of 20-under 268.
Till the time of filing the report, the men’s team comprised of Anirban Lahiri, Shubhankar Sharma, SSP Chaurasia and Khalin Joshi, who were yet to complete their round.
