Asian Games: Indian men’s badminton team beats Nepal 3-0 in semi-finals
Hangzhou. The Indian men’s badminton team entered the semi-finals by defeating Nepal 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the Asian Games being played in Hangzhou on Friday.
Riding on the stellar performance of its shuttlers, the Indian team reached the semi-finals of the 19th Asian Games without breaking a sweat. Lakshya Sen started it, Kidambi Srikanth followed it and Mithun Manjunath completed it in straight games without any trouble.
In the first match of the match, Lakshya Sen gave India a 1-0 lead by defeating Prince Dahal 21-5, 21-8. Later, in the second match of the match, former world number 1 Kidambi Srikanth defeated Sunil Joshi in straight sets 21-4, 21-13.
In terms of skill, the Nepal shuttler had no match with the Indian. Joshi was able to score full four points in the first game itself and gave Kidambi an easy victory.
Joshi struggled a bit in the second set of the match, but it was not enough to stop Kidambi from an easy win in the match.
In the third game of the match, Mithun Manjunath defeated Bishnu Katuwal 21-2, 21-7 and secured a place in the semi-finals for his team.
The Indian team will face the winner of the match between Indonesia and Korea in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the Indian women’s badminton team lost in the quarterfinals of the team competition in Hangzhou. India suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Thailand in their quarterfinal match.
