Asian Games: Rohan Bopanna won gold medal, became champion in mixed doubles with Rutuja

New Delhi. India’s Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale won the gold medal in the tennis mixed doubles tournament at the Asian Games 2023. The Indian pair won the gold medal match by defeating Tsung-Hao Huang and An Shuo Liang of Chinese Taipei in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China on Saturday.

The Indian pair defeated the Chinese Taipei pair 2-6, 6-3. [10-4] Took 1 hour 14 minutes to beat. This is Rohan Bopanna’s second gold medal in the Asian Games. Earlier in the Asian Games, Rohan Bopanna, playing his first tennis final, had won the men’s doubles gold medal in Jakarta 2018.

However, Rohan Bopanna and his men’s doubles partner Yuki Bhambri could not progress beyond the round of 16 at Hangzhou 2023. Let us tell you that India’s mixed pair got a bye in the first round of Asian Games 2023 tennis. In the second round, they defeated Akgul Amanmuradova-Maksim Shin of Uzbekistan 6-4, 6-2, before defeating Ayano Shimizu-Shinji Hazawa 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16.

Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale defeated Kazakhstan’s pair of Zhibek Kulumbaeva-Grigory Lomakin 7-5, 6-3 in the mixed doubles quarterfinals of tennis to reach the semi-finals where they defeated Hao-Ching Chan and Yu-Siu of Chinese Taipei. Su Ko 6-1, 3-6, [10-4] Defeated from and reached the finals.
