New Delhi. The Indian team defeated Pakistan by 228 runs in the Super-4 stage of Asia Cup 2023. Indian team’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer did not play in this match due to injury. KL Rahul got a chance in his place. The Indian team will play against Sri Lanka today (12 September) in the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, on September 15, Team India will face Bangladesh. But the suspense has increased on Shreyas Iyer’s play further.
According to the report of Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer’s sudden back injury is troubling him and he is not likely to participate in the next Super-4 match against Sri Lanka. He is currently under the observation of the National Cricket Academy staff and the BCCI medical team. Shreyas Iyer had back cramps before the Super-4 match against Pakistan. Captain Rohit Sharma had said during the toss that this problem was discovered during the warm-up.
If Shreyas Iyer is unable to play in the remaining matches of the Asia Cup, it will be no less than a shock for Team India. He was looking in good form in the group stage against Pakistan. In the past too, he has won many matches for Team India on his own. He has scored 1645 runs in 44 ODI matches for India, which includes 2 centuries and 14 half-centuries. He has also played 10 Tests and 49 ODI matches for Team India.
BCCI tweeted on Twitter and wrote that Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but has not yet fully recovered from the back spasm. The BCCI medical team has advised him to take rest and he has not accompanied the team to the stadium for India’s Super 4 match against Sri Lanka today.

On KL Rahul playing in place of Shreyas Iyer, captain Rohit Sharma had said that Rahul was told only 5 minutes before the toss that he was playing and he batted brilliantly and played well. It reflects the mentality of that player. Rahul played an explosive inning of 111 runs against Pakistan. It was because of him that Team India was able to score big.
