Cricket is set to return to the Olympics after a long time, announcement may be made to include it in the 2028 games
New Delhi. Preparations have been made to include cricket in the Olympics after 128 years. Cricket will be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. According to media reports, along with cricket, flag football, baseball and softball will also be included. Cricket is set to be included in the 141st session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be held in Mumbai from October 15, while lacruix and squash will be additional sports to these games.
Cricket was previously played at the 1900 Paris Olympics, where England and France faced off for the gold medal. Although, efforts have been going on to include cricket in the Olympics for a long time, but such a possibility did not happen. Actually, keeping in mind the popularity of cricket, IOC will try to capitalize on the market of the Indian subcontinent. For this, men’s and women’s T-20 cricket will be included in the Olympics. According to the report, with the inclusion of cricket, the broadcast rights for the 2024 Paris Olympics could reach Rs 1525 crore in 2028 compared to Rs 158.6 crore.
ICC expressed happiness
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed happiness over the recommendation by the Los Angeles 28 Organizing Committee (OC) for the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics. ICC Chairman Greg Barclay said that the ICC has included cricket in the list of sports after a two-year process and working with the LA28 organizing committee. He has sent this proposal to IOC for final approval. We are looking forward to the IOC session to be held in India.
India has come back after winning two golds in Asiad
Women’s T20 cricket was included in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and women’s T20 cricket along with men’s was included in the Hangzhou Asian Games. India won gold medals in both women’s and men’s categories in the Asiad.
