Cricket World Cup: Gautam Gambhir issues warning to opposition teams regarding Babar Azam

New Delhi: Team India’s former opener Gautam Gambhir has, in a way, issued a warning to the opposition teams regarding Pakistan’s best batsman Babar Azam. Gautam has said that Babar can score three to four centuries in the World Cup 2023. According to Gambhir, a key member of the Indian team that became champion in the World Cup 2011, Babar, who bats with excellent technique, can score a lot of runs in the tournament.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir said, ‘Babar Azam has every quality which can keep him in a different category from other batsmen in the World Cup. I have seen very few players who have a lot of time for batting. There are Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and David Warner but Babar Azam has a different quality.

Let us tell you that at present, Babar, the number one ranked batsman in ODI, has so far scored 5409 runs in 108 ODI matches at an excellent average of 58.16, which includes 19 centuries. Not only this, Pakistan Cricket Team captain Babar is the fastest batsman to reach the figure of 5 thousand runs in ODI. He has reached five thousand runs in just 97 innings. He has improved the record of Hashim Amla of South Africa, who had achieved this feat in 101 matches.

The World Cup-2023 will start on October 5 with the match between the last tournament’s finalists England and New Zealand. Pakistan team has to play its first match against Netherlands on 6 October. Of course, Babar’s ODI record is excellent but his performance in ODIs against India has been ordinary so far. Babar has scored 168 runs (average 28.00) in seven matches against Team India so far, during which his highest score has been 48.

Team India will hope that this phase of Babar’s poor performance against them continues during the World Cup 2023 also. However, regarding who will score the most runs in the World Cup 2023, Gambhir had taken the name of another batsman instead of Babar.
