The Faller uses axes, chainsaws or other machinery to fell trees using knowledge of tree characteristics and cutting techniques to control direction of fall and minimize tree damage.
*Essential Job Functions: *

Tree felling, operating chainsaws, chippers, trucks, and other equipment and tools as needed.

Measure felled trees and cut them into specified log lengths, using chain saws and axes.

Place supporting limbs or poles under felled trees in order to avoid splitting undersides, and to prevent logs from rolling.

Saw back-cuts, leaving sufficient sound wood to control direction of fall.

Select trees to be cut down, assessing factors such as site, terrain, and weather conditions before beginning work.

Move/carry logs, and slash, support climbers and grounds-person.

Efficient and appropriate clean up, daily

Skills/Experience:

2-3 years of felling experience
CDL Class A license preferred, not required
Must be punctual and reliable
Able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions
Must possess a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and pass a drug screening test.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to work independently and in a group.
Ability to learn quickly and to follow instructions accurately.
Ability to adhere to safety requirements.
Prolonged periods climbing and standing on ladders and raised platforms at extreme heights.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds for extended periods of time.
Must be able to push or pull up to 70 pounds.
May be exposed to higher-than-average risk of work-related injuries and illnesses from exposure to dangerous working conditions, machinery, and heights.
