Hangzhou. The Indian men’s volleyball team started their Asian Games campaign with a great win over Cambodia. The three-time Asiad medal winners defeated the lower-ranked team 25-14, 25-13, 25-19 in their first group match on Tuesday. The Indian team will now face South Korea in its next match on Wednesday.

Let us tell you that India’s journey in the volleyball competition of the Asian Games has seen ups and downs over the decades. The country’s first taste of success came in 1958, when the men’s team won a historic bronze medal. This achievement was followed by a silver medal in 1962, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Japan, who won the gold medal.

However, the path to glory became increasingly challenging and it took more than two decades for India to add another medal (a bronze medal in 1986) to its tally. It has been 37 years since India last won a medal in volleyball at the Asian Games, and now the Indian team will look to end this 37-year drought.
