New Delhi. Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma batted brilliantly in the Super-4 matches of Asia Cup against Pakistan. Rohit played an inning of 56 runs on 49 balls. During this period he hit six fours and four sixes. Rohit completed the 50th half century of his ODI career. He is the eighth batsman from India to do so. The Indian captain also made a special record against Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Afridi. He became the first batsman in any format of international cricket to hit a six in the first over of Shaheen Afridi.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bat and bowl at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday (September 10). Rohit and Shubman Gill gave a great start to Team India. Both of them made a partnership of 121 runs in 16.4 overs for the first wicket. Shubhman Gill played an innings of 58 runs in 52 balls. He hit 10 fours in his innings. This is Gill’s eighth half-century in ODIs.
Apart from Rohit, seven more Indian batsmen have scored 50 or more half-centuries. The name of great player Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of this list. Sachin has 96 half-centuries to his name. After him, former captain and current coach Rahul Dravid is in second place. Dravid has 83 half-centuries in his account.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have made a century partnership for India for the second consecutive match in the Asia Cup. Both had added 147 runs against Nepal. Made a partnership of 121 runs in this match against Pakistan. The pair of Rohit and Gill have jointly reached the first place among the pairs with the highest century partnership in the Asia Cup for India. Before these two, the pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli had two century partnerships registered in their names.
If we look at Rohit’s last five ODI innings against Pakistan, he has scored two centuries and two half-centuries during this period. A total of 370 runs have been scored from Rohit’s bat during this period. Before scoring 56 runs in this match, he was out after scoring 11 runs on September 2 in Kandy. Rohit had scored 140 runs against Pakistan in Manchester in 2019, 111 unbeaten runs in Dubai in 2018 and 52 runs in Dubai in 2018 itself.
